Winston Smith Defends the Memory Hole

A discussion about Tommy Robinson was deleted this morning. Censorship of this type has no place in a supposedly socialist and democratic community online or in local parties. http://letthemconfectsweeterlies.blogspot.se/…/authentic-di… I was about to take a screen grab of the discussion which I usually do when the PC police seem to be lurking sadly the Winston Smith administering the memory hole of this discussion group beat me to the punch.
This is an issue I will be Discussing with David Malone who stood for the Green Party Leadership last summer and came second, similar censorship has afflicted the Green Left Discussion Group.
Bruce Charlton.

Note: Why I use the term Political Correctness, instead of Liberalism or Socialism?
The reasons include:
1. The confusion over what 'liberalism' means - to some a free marketeer, to others a socialist. My definition of political correctness is broad and includes most mainstream conservatives, libertarians and anarchists; who are nowadays all significantly PC.
2. Differences in usage between the UK and US: in the UK the Liberals are a strange mixture of business- and farming-friendly Centrists with pacifist Leftists of an upper middle class type; in the US Liberals are the furthest Left of mainstream political ideologies.
3. That although PC clearly evolved from (what is in the US) called liberalism, PC is the outcome of a distinctive 'turn' in Leftist politics, which became obvious in the mid-1960s. In its striking, explicit, surface features PC is something new under the sun, never before seen in history.
4. Leftist political groups have, over the years, called themselves Communist, Socialist, Social Democrat, Liberal Democrat, Democrat and various other names – but none of these have become dominant, and none are fully inclusive of Leftism.
5. The dawning realization that the phenomena collected together under the jokey term 'political correctness' was a vastly more robust and malignant thing than I had ever imagined.
*
So that what seemed either silly or trivial or both, will end by destroying that modernity which made PC possible in the first place.
Yet we can perceive now, in advance of all this, that even when PC is utterly swept-away it will be blind to what has happened, and to what it had done. PC will always see itself as being on the side of the angels, whatever its outcome may be.
*
It is a truly amazing thing, this political correctness; something so paltry, so puny, so soft - yet wreaking such devastation while rendering the devastation imperceptible.
It seemed, therefore, worth discussing under its new name, as a phenomenon not truly new at its deepest level - but new in its combination of idealistic, delusional subjectivism with deadly, plodding bureaucracy.
*
*
Blurb
What is political correctness? A thought prison: a self-constructed jail of delusions; yet a prison engaged in destroying-itself: guards and inmates together.
http://addictedtodistraction.blogspot.se/
Is anybody safe?
Under PC, whatever you do, whatever willing you show, status is contingent.
There is no safety even for members of the ruling elite in a system of Political Correctness; anyone at all is susceptible to denunciation for any reason or no reason at any time.
Since PC is a wave of moral 'progress' which leaves-behind all previous moral standards and behaviours - there can be no accumulation of moral capital.
This applies to the ultra-PC just as much as to the openly reactionary.
*
(In this respect PC is more like communist than fascist totalitarianism: under fascism membership-of and courageous loyalty to the in-group usually brings safety from denunciation; but under communism anybody was vulnerable to denunciation – friends and enemies of the government alternated with bewildering rapidity: nobody was safe.)
*
Indeed, the PC elite seem especially vulnerable to denunciation - since they are under continuous scrutiny; it is hard to keep-up with the pace of change, and the change is so arbitrary; it is very difficult to suppress common sense 24/7.
The highest member of the PC elite is only a single gaffe away from disaster.
*
(Note: A ‘gaffe’ is when an elite PC intellectual momentarily forgets to lie.)
It is clear that a strong effort is being made to demonise vocal people on both the very left and very right of political discourse and paint them as extremists whilst the extremists of Neo Liberalism are painted as level headed and superior, do not be fooled.
There is a lot of baiting going on Share this it nails how peaceful protest and non-violent civil disobedience is the most effective driver for change.

Joel Sperry What has this got to do with supporting JC. If you post according to thr rules the post will stay. It is not censorship you are just posting things that arn't relevant to this group. Find a grouo where your post are relevant and post there.

Roger Lewis Joel, Actually it has quite a lot to do with Supporting Jeremy Corbyn, which I do. To win the next Election a wider number of voters need to be appealed to Vote either for Labour or one of the other Parties that would support a Corbyn Led Labour Government. This means interacting with and sharing ideas with those people.
I am curious as to what you think you achieve by posting a potentially alienating post? I am not offended, but many would be, how is that supposed to help?

Roger Lewis That last post related to the David Malone Interview. The OP is highly relevant to Free Speech and the right to Free Speech. Where arguments are wrongheaded, plain wrong and even offensive it is a matter of rebuttal that should not Tax the possessor of the stronger argument and certainly not the person with the objective truth in their grasp. Again your ill-tempered Post is somewhat perplexing to me, I would be grateful for some sort of structured argument points, as I do not see that you have made an argument merely waved around in a generally be gone with you way.

Joel Sperry Again what has that got to do with supporting JC. The rules are really clear. It is nonsensical to claim censorship when what you are posting is outside the scope of the group. It is like sending in a cake recipe to a gardening magazine and claiming they are censoring you when it does not get published. So again what you posted was irrelevant to this group . it is really simple and not censorship.

Roger Lewis Joe, A discussion about a Video stating That Tommy Robinson was hate preaching was posted by someone else. I did not post the discussion but I did participate, One of the things I pointed out was that the OP video was heavily edited and quoted out of Context. This is something which the media does a lot with respect to Jeremy Corbyn's past statements and speeches.
Any Doctored Narrative or memory-holing of discussion related to controversial political questions is counterproductive, this is a point that Bruce Charlton makes about PC in general.
You are mischaracterising both my post here and the Censorship which it complains of. My follow up post regarding the interview with David Malone is a different question but some of those questions are covered here in Davids Article titled Culture Matters.

And this one on Re-Branding Dissent.

http://www.golemxiv.co.uk/2016/01/re-branding-dissent/

Joel, I do not know what you think supporting Jeremy Corbyn means for me it certainly does not include a suspension of critical Thought and Debate of Issues, That is what Jeremy stands for as far as I can gather, If you do not then that is a matter for you and one on which we obviously disagree.

Over the last few months the Brexit debate…

Joel Sperry Again read the rules of the group. The disscussion maybe pefectly valid but it falls outside of the rules of this forum. To to continue my analogy it maybe a lovely recipe for stawberry cake but it is not about roses. It is simply not for this forum.

Roger Lewis Joel Sperry The rules of this Group have not been breached are you a moderator? if so please could you state your evidence regarding a breach of which rule and how? Even if you are not a moderator perhaps you could still answer the question again with Evidence and not generalisations.

Meet The Fuggers, Brexit, The Euro and Clueless Elites.

Meet the Fuggers or, its the Money Power stupid. Brexit, The Euro and clueless Elites.

The Eastern Roman empire under Justinian saw the seeds of its final fall to The Ottomans when Abd El Melik started paying tribute in Gold coinage under his own Political Branding you might say.

With all the talk of Brexit being the removal of a final obstacle to the deeper federation of a European State transcending tiresome nationalism, perhaps a little review of History, particularly Monetary history, might not be such a bad thing.

In the review of European competences carried out as a consultation by the foreign office regarding Brexit and or reform requirements of the Eu, two of the papers need to be considered in the context of the Money power argument.

The first paper considered is the Subsidiarity and proportionality aspects of the Lisbon treaty and the competences of the EU institutions vis National and regional democratic institutions. This is a trade-off between Centralised Efficiency and …

Turn Out Is Key. Election 2017. High Turnout and Labour Wins!!! #VoteLabour #DriveAfreindtothePollingPlace

This Graph Explains the Importance of Turnout to the outcome of the Election Tomorrow.

If Turnout is the 72.2% of the Brexit Referendum last year you can see that the Light Blue line shows That the middle third of the probability distribution curve on Ashcroft's polling numbers has a Tory Majority of between 20 and 60 seats.
The 2015 turnout was 66.1 % overall. around the same as 1997 general election less than the 77% for the 92 vote. Historically the 1950 and 51 elections had over 80% turnouts.
